Archery World Cup 2023 Antalya: US compound team in finals

USA defeated Chinese Taipei in Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya by a narrow margin in their semifinal matchup

Following a successful morning of competition in the team eliminations at the Hyundai Archery World Cup 2023 in Antalya, the USA will compete in both the men’s and women’s team compound finals. The men’s team of Braden Gellenthien, and Sawyer Sullivan, with their qualifying world record score, defeated El Salvador 235-232 in their semi-final to advance to Saturday’s championship. After defeating Chinese Taipei 234-228 in their last four matches, Team USA will take on the Danish trio of Tore Bjarnarson, Mathias Fullerton, and Stephan Hansen at the Archery World Cup 2023 Antalya final.

“It feels fantastic, we had an excellent team spirit and shot well as a unit. We had an exciting time today. Up until this point, the week has been flawless. Excellent team rounds and quail. The events of the upcoming days have me excited, ” Fullerton said at the Archery World Cup 2023 Antalya. In the bronze medal playoff, the Chinese Taipei team, which included Chen Chieh-Lun, Pan Yu Ping, and Yang Cheng-Jui, defeated El Salvador by just one point to win the bronze.

“It’s excellent that I’ve already won a bronze medal in the season’s opening tournament. I’m over the moon. Within the team, we supported one another and were happy, which helped us win the bronze medal,” said Chen, who shot a perfect score in the bronze-medal match at the Archery World Cup 2023 Antalya.

Women’s Team

USA defeated Chinese Taipei in Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya by a narrow margin in their semifinal matchup and will take on Colombia in the women’s final on Saturday at the Archery World Cup 2023 Antalya. Team Colombia, which defeated Mexico 236-234 in the other semifinal, will face Madison Cox and Danelle Wentzel-Lutz in the championship game of the Archery World Cup 2023 Antalya. The USA team had a strong day overall, as evidenced by their victory over top-seeded India in the quarterfinal.

Wentzel-Lutz, who was competing in her first World Cup competition as a member of Team USA, said, “It’s the first time the three of us shot as a team. We had two rounds to figure it out, and I believe we did so while maintaining our composure. It also helped that we were encouraging one another.”

Along with Alejandra Usquiano and Juliana Gallego Lopez, who was competing in her first World Cup, Sara Lopez served as the team’s captain for Colombia. “We’re very content. An enormous surprise brought us here. Lopez, who is seeded third in the individual competition, continued, “We weren’t coming as a team, and we realized that two days before traveling here. Juliana is a new team member who has joined us as well. I consider her to be my little sister because she is young, hasn’t shot for very long, and is a member of my local team.”

“It’s great to be able to go for the gold with her. The results from yesterday showed that we are still one of the top teams in the world.” Andrea Becerra, Ana Sofia Hernandez Jeon, and Dafne Quintero won their match against Chinese Taipei 234-230 to win the women’s team bronze medal. The competition ended on Wednesday morning.
