Indian track legend Milkha Singh tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. The 91-year-old is currently in home isolation at his residence in Chandigarh. Although his condition is stable, the former Olympian has been suffering high fever since Wednesday. Milkha Singh is India’s greatest track athletes. He was introduced to the sport when he served in the Indian Army. He remains the first and only one to win the gold medals in the 400m event at the Asian and Commonwealth Games. Milkha Singh had called for people to stay indoors and stay safe in the wake of a second wave of the coronavirus in India.

Milkha Singh‘s wife, Nirmal Kaur, said her husband is fine and stable. “He is doing fine and is stable. But I’m worried as he is 91. The local Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research has sent an attendant along with oxygen facilities to look after him. We are all praying for his speedy recovery,” Kaur said.

As per her mother, she has been in constant touch with her family. “Mona is constantly on video call with me and Milkha jee. She is a great help and is guiding us. We are now waiting for (son) Jeev to join us,” Kaur said.

Milkha Singh’s son and ace golfer Jeev Milkha Singh recently shared a video on Twitter where he thanked people for sending their wishes his father’s way. Jeev said that his father was recovering well and would be alright within the next few days.

“Just wanted to thank everyone for the outpouring of good wishes that have poured in for my dad. He is in great spirits and receiving wonderful care. I am sure he will be the Flying Sikh he has always been very soon,” Jeev tweeted along with the video.

“Thank you everybody for the concern and good wishes sent to my father. He is in good spirits and recovering well. He has always been a fighter. I’m sure he will be fine in a few days. Jai Hind,” he said in the video.
