The national women’s 4*400m relay team has pulled out of the IAAF World Relays because of injuries to some of the team members, as per reports. The World Relays will be held in Poland on May 1 and 2, it will be a qualifying competition for the Tokyo Olympics and 2022 World Athletics Championship to be held in Oregon, USA. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had announced the squad for the World Relays this month. The Indian men’s 4*400m and women’s 4*100m relay team’s participation is also facing some uncertainty due to the travel restrictions imposed on flights from India because of the spike in COVID-19 cases.

The AFI had selected a six-member Indian women’s 4*400m relay team this month for the World Relays. The team comprises- MR Poovamma, Subha Venkatesan, Kiran, Anjali Devi, R Revathi, VK Vismaya and Jisna Mathew. The Indian men’s 4*400m and women’s 4*100m relay team’s participation in the World Relays are also doubtful, because of travel restrictions imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 situation. The Indian teams connecting flight to Amsterdam has been canceled due to rising covid-19 cases in the country. They were supposed to board a KLM flight on Tuesday but the Dutch government has suspended flights from India effective from Monday evening.
