Indian archers topped the Asia Cup 2022 Stage 3 in Sharjah, which took place from December 20 to December 25, 2022 by winning 10 medals. Out of which, five were gold, three were silver, and two were bronze. Compound archers captured seven of India’s ten medals in the tournament, thus creating history. Indian archers won all three medals in the women’s individual compound event as Pragati defeated her compatriot Aditi Gopichand Swami 144-142 in the title fight. Parneet Kaur, who had defeated top seed Oh Yoohyun of South Korea in the quarters before losing to Aditi in the semis defeated another Korean, Seungyeon Han 146-145 to win the bronze medal.
Pragati and Aditi Gopichand Swami were also members of the compound women’s team, alongside Aishwarya Sharma which won the gold medal after defeating South Korea in a shootout in the final. Additionally, this was India’s first medal from the Sharjah event. The Indian men’s compound team of Priyansh, Ojas Pravin Deotale, and Manav Ganeshrao Jadhao won gold as well, defeating another Korean team 230-224 in the final. In the individual competition, Priyansh defeated Ojas Pravin Deotale, the top seed, by 148-141 to win the gold medal. Ojas had eliminated Manav Jadhao from contention during the quarterfinals.
India’s lone individual medal in recurve was a bronze medal won by Parth Sushant Salunke in the men’s division. Parth who excelled in stage 2 of the event in Iran as well fell to eventual gold medalist Kazakh archer Ilfat Abdullin 6-4 in the semis but beat Korea’s Minseung Kang 7-3 in the bronze medal match. In the recurve archery competitions, Parth Salunke contributed to India’s all the three medals. In the men’s recurve team competition, Parth, Mrinal Chauhan, and Akash took home the gold medal by defeating South Korea 5-4 in the shootout. After falling short to Chinese Taipei in the final, Parth Salunke and Tisha Punia managed to win a silver medal in the mixed team recurve competition.
