The Vegas Golden Knights will welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to the T-Mobile Arena for an NHL game on Thursday. Vegas started off their NHL campaign in dramatic fashion as they defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 with just seconds to spare in their opening game. Goals from William Karlsson, Jack Eichel, Jonathan Marchessault and Mark Stone were enough to get Vegas the win.
Mark Stone was the hero of the match as his last minute goal sent Vegas fans into raptures. Speaking after the game, an elated Stone said, “We had our breakdowns, but that’s just learning curves. If we can cut those in half, we’ll get it done. Power play got a little talking-to in between periods there. We stepped up for it in the third.”
The Chicago Blackhawks on the other hand lost their first game of the season 5-2 against defending champions, Colorado Avalanche. Max Domi and Jonathan Toews were the two players to get on the scoresheet for Chicago in what was a heavy loss. Goaltender Petr Mrázek however had a good individual game as he stopped 30 of the 35 shots he was peppered with and ended the game with a save percentage of .857.
Head coach Luke Richardson felt that while he did see some positives in the loss, he admitted that his team should have done better. Speaking after the game, Richardson said, “Overall, I think the guys fought until the end and that’s all we can ask for. But we definitely have to demand more of ourselves.”
