Toronto Maple Leafs Are Trying Hard For This St. Louis Blues Winger

The Toronto Maple Leafs could be a big buyer in the market ahead of the March 3rd trading deadline. They look for players at every position and are associated with many players whose contracts are expiring or who are about to leave their current squad. The Maple Leafs are interested in adding a solid Top 6 to their lineup. St. Louis Blues winger Ivan Barbashev is a top contender who can help their offensive line alongside Orston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander. Barbashev one of his 33 picks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft was named the St. Louis Blues as the second pick. In the 2021–22 season, Barbashev tallied his career-high 60 points with 26 goals and 34 assists, helping the Blues achieve his best regular-season record of 49-22-11 in five years was helpful. 

Will Ivan Barbashev Make Any Difference?

In the 2022/23 season, Barbashev played an average of 16 minutes per game and scored 24 points with 9 goals and 15 assists. According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Barbashev has been informed by his St. Louis Blues that his contract will not be renewed and he will likely be traded before the March trade deadline. Barbashev is a versatile player who can play both in the middle and on the wing and can find useful roles in several teams, and his relatively low price in terms of salary cap impact. It would be a cost-effective move not only for his Maple his Toronto Leafs but also for other competing teams.

Maple Leafs is his second in the Atlantic Division behind the Boston Bruins. They had a great first half of the season, his 31st win with a 31-13-8 record.
