Corey Perry born on May 16, 1985, is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). He played the first 14 years of his career with the Anaheim Ducks. He then played for the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens. During his 2 campaigns with Dallas and Montreal, Perry lost consecutive Stanley Cup Finals to the Tampa Bay Lightning, before joining them in that offseason. Also, he is known for his goal-scoring ability and abrasive playing style, with an ability to get under his opponent’s skin, which earned him the nickname “the Worm”.

He captured a Memorial Cup with the Ontario Hockey League (OHL)’s London Knights and a gold medal with Canada at the World Junior Championships during his major junior career. Perry was drafted in the first round, 28th overall, by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2007. In 2008, he recorded 29 goals and 25 assists. He improved in 2009 to 72 points and was named to his first NHL All-Star Game. Perry continued his ascent in 2010 as he scored 27 goals and had 49 assists.

NHL and National Debut

Perry combines a 6-foot-3 frame with a long reach and powerful skating stride to get past defenders. However, Perry, selected by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the first round (No. 28) of the 2003 NHL Draft, also became one of the best goal-scorers of his generation. At age 20, Perry began his NHL career in 2005-06 with at least one point in each of his first four games, including his first goal on Oct. 10, 2005. He was later demoted to the minors for six weeks but returned to the NHL to stay in January 2006. On December 30, 2009, Perry was selected to play for Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. On April 16, 2010, Corey Perry was among the first group of 15 players to be named to Canada for participation at the 2010 IIHF World Championships.
