The Pittsburgh Penguins will welcome the Vegas Golden Knights to the PPG Paints Arena for an NHL game on Thursday. The Penguins lost 2-3 against the Hurricanes in their last game. The Penguins saw it differently. Head coach Mike Sullivan called Jarvis’ play “a dangerous hit” and didn’t blame his players for what he considered a natural reaction.

Rust, who was shaken in the moment but not injured, quietly fumed in an angry Pittsburgh dressing room. “The whole play was fairly bizarre,” Rust said. “The whole game was bizarre, some things that weren’t called.”

The Knights on the other hand won 2-3 against the Blue Jackets in their last game.  Paul Cotter scored in his first-ever shootout attempt and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Monday night to stop a two-game skid.

The shootout went four sudden-death rounds after each team scored once — Gustav Nyqvist for Columbus and Jonathan Marchessault for Vegas — in the first three rounds. Cotter, a second-year forward playing in his 21st career game, was the seventh player to shoot for Vegas and he beat goaltender Daniil Tarasov to end it. “I was determined not to let in another goal, and I knew we were going to put one in,” Vegas goalie Logan Thompson said.
