The game between the Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks will take place at Canada Life Centre on Monday, March 6 at 7:30 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets will welcome the San Jose Sharks to Canada Life Centre for an NHL game on Monday. The Winnipeg Jets won 7-5 in their last game over the Oilers. The Jets overcame a hat trick from Leon Draisaitl and ended a five-game losing streak with a 7-5 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Canada Life Centre on Saturday. Nick Bjugstad scored, and Evan Bouchard had three assists for the Oilers (34-22-8), who had won two straight. Jack Campbell made 31 saves.
“Sometimes when you go through these slides, mentally you become a little fragile and you give up a goal and all of the sudden you don’t want to give up the next one and you’re playing a little slower,” Jets forward Adam Lowry said. “We played a lot freer today, and faster. … That’s what we’re looking for, not to wilt under pressure, not to wilt when things get tough, but come together and play the way we’re asked to play.”
Josh Morrissey had two goals and an assist, and Mark Scheifele, Morgan Barron and Dylan DeMelo each had a goal and an assist for the Jets (36-25-2), who were 0-4-1 during the skid. Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves. Winnipeg is four points behind the Minnesota Wild for second in the Central Division, and one point ahead of the Colorado Avalanche, who have three games in hand.
The San Jose Sharks on the other hand lost 3-8 against the Capitals in their last game. Alex Ovechkin had two goals and an assist, and Dylan Strome had a goal and two assists for the Washington Capitals in an 8-3 win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Saturday.
Craig Smith scored his first two goals since being acquired on Feb. 23, and Darcy Kuemper made 38 saves for the Capitals (31-27-6), who have won three of four after losing six straight. Washington is three points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have played two fewer games, for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
“I thought the guys that jumped in had a really nice game,” Capitals coach Peter Laviolette said. “I think the response after the first period, guys came out and played a much better brand of hockey and dug in and chipped away at it and were able to score some goals in the second and get some life after that.”
