The Toronto Maple Leafs will welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Scotiabank Arena for an NHL game on Friday. The Toronto Maple Leafs lost 1-2 in their last game over the Avalanche. Coming off A 4-3 home loss to Buffalo on Monday in which Toronto held a 2-0 lead late in the second period, the Maple Leafs opened the scoring three minutes into the first when Rielly scored his third, after earlier hitting the post.
Samsonov stopped Valeri Nichushkin on a short-handed breakaway in the second before Cale Makar nearly went end-to-end on a rush, but the puck trickled wide. Georgiev matched his Russian counterpart at the other end by denying Rielly on a power play and Calle Jarnkrok from in close to keep things even through 40 minutes. After the Maple Leafs killed two penalties early in the third, William Nylander and Auston Matthews had a good chance on Georgiev.
The Carolina Hurricanes on the other hand won 5-3 against the Jets in their last game. Jesperi Kotkaniemi had two goals and an assist, Jack Drury scored his first goal of the season and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 on Tuesday night. Jaccob Slavin and Brady Skjei, also scored for the Hurricanes, who’ve endured sudden offensive woes and the loss of a star player during the past week. Kotkaniemi’s second goal of the game was an empty-netter with four seconds left.
“That’s the whole key to everything — how you respond,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “That’s life.” Frederik Andersen made 21 saves just hours after the Hurricanes announced that All-Star forward Andrei Svechnikov will have surgery for a torn knee ligament and miss the rest of the season. “The news about Svech is really tough,” Skjei said. “You don’t replace a guy like that. You have to step up now and do a little bit more. Not change their game, but give a little extra.”
