The Nashville Predators will welcome the St. Louis Blues to Bridgestone Arena for an NHL game on Saturday. The Nashville Predators lost 2-0 in their last game over the Penguins. Jarry certainly looked prepared in his 200th NHL appearance while outdueling Nashville’s Jusse Saros. Saros was spectacular at times while making 43 saves. It just wasn’t enough for the injury-depleted Predators to bookend a stirring upset over NHL-leading Boston on Tuesday.
“It was a tough night for us,” Nashville coach John Hynes said. “Credit Pittsburgh, they put pressure on us. … We didn’t test Jarry a lot, but we did get some good looks and he made some big saves for them.” Jason Zucker scored his 26th goal in the second period to give Jarry all the help he would need. Jake Guentzel provided some breathing room with a power-play goal in the later stages of the third period.
Saros has been one of the reasons Nashville remains in the mix for the final playoff berth in the Western Conference even after a sell-off at the trade deadline. The Predators are stockpiling picks gearing for the future while playing without stars Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi, among others.
The St. Louis Blues on the other hand won 3-5 against the Hawks in their last game. Logan Brown and Alexey Toropchenko scored 38 seconds apart in the second period, and the St. Louis Blues beat the skidding Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 on Thursday night. Jakub Vrana, Jordan Kyrou and Brandon Saad also scored for St. Louis. Justin Faulk had two assists.
The Blues, still clinging to faint playoff hopes, have won two straight and three of four. “We’re scoring goals, and we’ve got a lot of guys playing pretty good offense right now,” coach Craig Berube said. “That’s the bottom line. Our penalty kill hasn’t been great. Our power play hasn’t been great lately. We’re still finding ways to score goals and win games.” It was the seventh consecutive loss for the Blackhawks, who dropped into a tie with Columbus for last place in the overall NHL standings with 54 points each.
