Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers will welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to FLA Live Arena for an NHL game on Monday. The Florida Panthers won 2-4 in their last game over the Capitals. Matthew Tkachuk scored the tiebreaking goal with 1 minute left in regulation and had two assists as the Florida Panthers beat the Washington Capitals 4-2 on Saturday night for their sixth straight win.

Sam Reinhart had a goal and an assist, and Carter Verhaeghe and Aaron Ekblad also scored for Florida, which reclaimed the top wild card in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers moved past Pittsburgh, which beat Detroit earlier Saturday. Florida is tied with the New York Islanders with 91 points but holds the tiebreaker.

“We have to keep it going,” Tkachuk said. “Teams around us are winning and fortunately for us, we kind of control our destiny here. We’ve just got to keep winning here. We all want to make it in so bad, so we’re just doing whatever it takes right now to make sure that happens.” Aleksander Barkov had two assists and Alex Lyon had 22 saves for the Panthers.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs on the other hand won 7-1 against the Canadiens in their last game. Mitch Marner had two goals and an assist to reach a career-high 98 points for the season, helping the Toronto Maple Leafs rout the Montreal Canadiens 7-1 on Saturday night. “We were really connected,” Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. “We were in control of the game and didn’t really do anything to jeopardize that.”

John Tavares scored twice, Auston Matthews had a goal and three assists and William Nylander and Michael Bunting also scored. Ilya Samsonov made 20 saves, and Ryan O’Reilly and Erik Gustafsson each had three assists. Marner is two points shy of becoming the fourth player in franchise history to reach 100 points, joining Darryl Sittler (twice), Doug Gilmour (twice) and Auston Matthews (once). “Definitely a cool thing,” Marner said. “Try not to focus on stuff like that. But it’s hard when you’re this close.”
