The game between the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild will take place at American Airlines Center on Monday, April 17 at 9:30 PM ET.
The Dallas Stars will welcome the Minnesota Wild to American Airlines Center for an NHL game on Monday. The Dallas Stars lost 1-0 in their last game over the Blues. Rookie center Wyatt Johnston scored his 24th goal, goalie Jake Oettinger posted another shutout and the Dallas Stars then had to wait another day to find out if they would win the Central Division title.
The Stars will go into the playoffs on a six-game winning streak after beating St. Louis 1-0 in their regular-season finale Thursday night. Dallas (47-21-14) finished with 108 points, one ahead of Colorado for the division lead. The Avalanche won their home finale 4-2 over Winnipeg just minutes after the Stars finished, then still had a makeup game to play Friday night at Nashville. “We took care of our business, did what we had to do,” first-year Stars coach Pete DeBoer said. “You know, if you can’t win the division with 108 points, hats off to Colorado. We’ll take whoever we end up having to play.”
“Two teams that were trying to find all the energy they could have,” Stars center Tyler Seguin said. “I mean, it felt like a playoff games, especially in the third how they were coming at us with nothing left to lose early in their season, and just playing proud, and respect that. We haven’t had one of these in a little while, tight 1-0 game, so it was great.”
The Minnesota Wild on the other hand lost 4-3 against the Predators in their last game. Frederick Gaudreau scored twice and Nic Petan also scored for the Wild. Gustav Nyquist had two assists and Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves. “We thought we competed,” Wild coach Dean Evason said. “We got a point and the way that the guys competed was positive.” In overtime, Parssinen skated through the slot and lifted a between-the-legs highlight reel shot over Gustavsson’s shoulder for the game-winner.
“I don’t know how it came up in my mind,” Parssinen said of the move. Gustavsson gave credit to the Finnish rookie. “That’s a nice move,” he said. “He comes down, he has some time there and then between the legs, bar down, it’s a nice hockey goal.” The Wild announced earlier Thursday they had signed Gaudreau to a five-year, $10.5 million contract that will keep the forward in Minnesota through the 2027-28 season.
“It’s great, just the thought of playing hockey for five more years in this environment with this organization, those teammates, the staff, everybody, really the whole organization,” Gaudreau said. “I feel very, very grateful.” Tied 2-2 going into the third, Trenin and Petan traded goals 16 seconds apart late to send the game into overtime. Petan’s goal was his first in the NHL since March 2, 2019.
