The Carolina Hurricanes will welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to PNC Arena for an NHL game on Thursday. The Carolina Hurricanes won 3-4 in their last game over the Canadiens. Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored the deciding goal in the sixth round of the shootout, and the Carolina Hurricanes rallied to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 on Tuesday night. Brent Burns and Teuvo Teraivainen also scored in the tiebreaker for the Hurricanes, and Rem Pitlick and Nick Suzuki tallied for the Canadiens.
Jaccob Slavin, Brady Skjei and Jesper Fast had goals in regulation, and Brett Pesce had two assists for the Metropolitan Division-leading Hurricanes, who won their third straight and eighth in the last 10. Antti Raanta started and gave up two goals on 10 shots in the first period before leaving with an apparent injury. Frederik Andersen started the second and finished with 13 saves.
Carolina moved four points ahead of second-place New Jersey in the division. The Devils lost 4-3 to Toronto earlier Tuesday night. Michael Pezzetta and Alex Belzile each had a goal and an assist, Mike Hoffman also scored and Chris Tierney had two assists for the Canadiens, who lost their fourth straight (0-3-1). Jake Allen finished with 36 saves.
The Philadelphia Flyers on the other hand lost 5-2 against the Lightning in their last game. Alex Killorn and Nikita Kucherov each had two goals and an assist, and the Tampa Bay Lightning ended a five-game skid with a 5-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Amalie Arena on Tuesday. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 33 saves, and Mikhail Sergachev had two assists for the Lightning (38-21-5), who went 3-for-6 on the power play. They were 0-4-1 during the skid.
Tampa Bay remained five points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for second place in the Atlantic Division. Toronto rallied for a 4-3 win at the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. “This was big, especially when you go the way we were going it was tough,” Killorn said. “To be at home and win, that’s a good feeling. This is just the first step. We need to start building momentum. This was kind of a litmus-test game, but we want to keep going the right way.”
