The game between the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers will take place at KeyBank Center on Monday, March 6 at 7:30 PM ET.
The Buffalo Sabres will welcome the Edmonton Oilers to KeyBank Center for an NHL game on Monday. The Buffalo Sabres won 5-3 in their last game over the Lightning. Tage Thompson and the Buffalo Sabres bounced back nicely from a pair of tough losses. Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper made his own statement with the Lightning.
Rookie Jack Quinn scored during Buffalo’s three-goal second period, and the Sabres beat slumping Tampa Bay 5-3 on Saturday in a chippy Atlantic Division matchup. Thompson, Jeff Skinner, Tyson Jost and Vinnie Hinostroza also scored for Buffalo (32-25-4), which matched its win total from last year. Eric Comrie stopped 33 shots. The Sabres were coming off consecutive losses to Columbus and Boston by a combined 12-4 score. They were routed by the NHL-leading Bruins 7-1 on Thursday night.
“We needed a big response after our last game,” said Thompson, who opened the scoring with his team-leading 42nd goal and added an assist. “I think we were on our heels a little bit last game and I think tonight coming in we just wanted to make sure that no matter what happened, whether they get a push or not, we’re stepping on the gas the whole time.”
The Edmonton Oilers on the other hand lost 7-5 against the Jets in their last game. The Winnipeg Jets overcame a hat trick from Leon Draisaitl and ended a five-game losing streak with a 7-5 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Canada Life Centre on Saturday.
“Sometimes when you go through these slides, mentally you become a little fragile and you give up a goal and all of the sudden you don’t want to give up the next one and you’re playing a little slower,” Jets forward Adam Lowry said. “We played a lot freer today, and faster. … That’s what we’re looking for, not to wilt under pressure, not to wilt when things get tough, but come together and play the way we’re asked to play.”
Josh Morrissey had two goals and an assist, and Mark Scheifele, Morgan Barron and Dylan DeMelo each had a goal and an assist for the Jets (36-25-2), who were 0-4-1 during the skid. Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves. Winnipeg is four points behind the Minnesota Wild for second in the Central Division, and one point ahead of the Colorado Avalanche, who have three games in hand. Nick Bjugstad scored, and Evan Bouchard had three assists for the Oilers (34-22-8), who had won two straight. Jack Campbell made 31 saves.
