The Detroit Red Wings will kick off their NHL season when they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to Little Caesars Arena on Friday. Detroit did not have a good preseason as they won only three games and lost five with their last game ending in a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Puis Suter was the only goal scorer for Detroit as they ended up on the losing side.
Detroit announced their roster for this season and included youngster Elmer Soderblom. Soderblom spoke about how happy he felt about being picked and said, “I was very happy and honored to still be in the lineup. I took it as a positive thing and took energy from it. I’m just going to keep working.”
The Montreal Canadiens on the other hand won their first game of the season against the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3. Two goals from Cole Caufield and a goal each from Josh Anderson and Sean Monahan ensured that the team from Montreal started off on the right note. Goaltender Jake Allen had a good game too as he saved 29 of the 32 shots he was peppered with.
Defenseman Arber Xhekaj who had two shots on goal spoke after the game and said, “It is crazy. I can’t even believe what is going on right now. It’s a special place. It is just an honor to play in front of our fan base.”
