The Columbus Blue Jackets will welcome the Buffalo Sabres to Nationwide Arena for an NHL game on Saturday. The Jackets lost 5-2 against the Blackhawks in their last game. Blue Jackets rookie Daniil Tarasov allowed four goals on Chicago’s first 20 shots before being replaced by Joonas Korpisalo. Tarasov made his fifth straight start as slumping No. 1 goalie Elvis Merzlikins sat out with an undisclosed illness.
Kane ended an eight-game drought with his fifth goal as the Blackhawks opened the scoring in a game for the first time since their last win, at the Rangers on Dec. 3. “It’s always nice to produce,” Kane said. “Even after the last game you started feeling good that hopefully things are coming.”
The Sabres on the other hand won 2-3 against the Golden Knights in their last game. Jeff Skinner, Tage Thompson and Lawrence Pilut scored to help Buffalo get its first win at Vegas after coming in 0-3-1 all-time. The Sabres improved to 6-2-1 in December, after going 4-9-1 the previous month, and moved into a fourth-place tie with Florida in the Atlantic Division with 34 points.
“We had our captain come in and challenge us. He’s an unbelievable captain, unbelievable character, unbelievable player and you know what, when he says something, everyone’s listening,” former Golden Knight Alex Tuch said. “I thought we stepped up to the occasion and we responded well.”
