The Calgary Flames will take on the Buffalo Sabres at Scotiabank Saddledome (Calgary) in the NHL game on October 20. Numerous young players are making an impact at the NHL level, giving the Buffalo Sabres hope that they are finally making progress. Buffalo upset Edmonton on Tuesday despite being huge underdogs, and they’ll try to build on that success when they play the Calgary Flames, a squad that has so far this season looked downright terrifying. The Flames are strong favorites to improve to 4-0 on Thursday after playing to a 3-0 record through a challenging schedule of games against the Avalanche, Oilers, and Golden Knights.
At the closing of the previous season, coach Don Granato’s team had won six of its final eight games and had an impressive anticipated goals rating of 52.99%. The Sabres have now started off fairly positively, going 2-1-0, with their lone loss coming in a solid home effort against a tough Florida Panthers squad. Buffalo’s 44.35 xGF% thus far this season is less than promising, but it was achieved despite stiff opposition and with the Sabres in the lead for a significant portion of the game. This season, a number of the Sabres’ players are expected to advance.

Rasmus Dahlin led the Sabres with 1.42 anticipated goals as he was an attacking force from the back end against Edmonton. Through three games, the Sabres’ puck movement out of the back end is far better than it was at this time last year, and Owen Power is likely to provide a significant amount of offense from the back end as well. For Tage Thompson, Victor Olofsson, and Alex Tuch, this is fantastic news. The Sabres will score at a far higher pace for the entire season, in our opinion.
