James Michael Vesey, born May 26, 1993, is a Boston, Massachusetts native. His hockey skills were evident early on. The Boston Jr. Bruins are where he started, playing until 16. He then shifted to the Cushing Academy prep school team.
Vesey shone at Cushing Academy, with a record of 47 goals and 70 assists in two seasons. 2011 saw him as the New England Prep School Hockey League (NEPSHL) Player of the Year. Additionally, he was Nashville Predators’ third round (66th overall) pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
After graduating from Harvard, Vesey signed a free agent contract with the New York Rangers. He made his NHL debut in October 2016 and quickly made an impact. Vesey scored 13 goals and added 13 assists in his rookie season.
In his second season with the Rangers, Vesey scored 18 goals and added 26 assists. He helped the Rangers reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in seven seasons.
In 2018, Vesey signed a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres. He played for the Sabres for one season, scoring 13 goals and adding 15 assists.
