The game between the Arizona Coyotes and Toronto Maple Leafs will take place at Mullett Arena on Wednesday, December 29 at 9:00 PM ET.
The Arizona Coyotes will welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to Mullett Arena for an NHL game on Wednesday. The Coyotes won 6-3 against the Avalanche in their last game. Michael Carcone scored in his first NHL game this season, Nick Schmaltz had his second power-play goal in two games. Shayne Gostisbehere, Lawson Crouse, J.J. Moser and Clayton Keller also scored for Arizona, Connor Ingram made 28 saves and Jacob Chychrun had three assists to reach 102 for his career.
The Coyotes have won two straight and are 5-1-1 at home in 5,000-seat Mullett Arena since returning from a 14-game, 33-day trip. “It feels great,” Carcone said. “Obviously, scoring a goal is the best thing you can do. The communication out there is unbelievable. They made it easy on me. I had a lot of energy. A little bit of nerves, which I think helped. Felt fresh.”
The Leafs on the other hand won 4-5 against the Blues in their last game. William Nylander scored in overtime for Toronto after teammate TJ Brodie missed a penalty shot earlier in the extra session. Justin Holl, Alexander Kerfoot, Calle Jarnkrok and John Tavares also scored for Toronto, and Ilya Samsonov made 30 saves as the Leafs won their third straight to improve to 10-2-1 in December.
“As a general rule, you don’t get too critical of these games coming out of the (Christmas) break, even less so when you get two points,” Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. “I didn’t like that when we were in control of the game in the second period with a two-goal lead that we gave that back. But you have to like how the guys fought back.”
