The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the New England Patriots at Acrisure Stadium for an NFL game on Sunday. The Steelers have an overall season record of 1-0 and come into this game on the back of a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in their last game. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky completed 21 of his 38 passes and passed for 194 yards and had one touchdown pass. Najee Harris scored a touchdown of his own and Chris Boswell scored 11 points as he completed three of his four field goals.
Linebacker T. J. Watt went off injured in the fourth quarter and teammate Cameron Heyward bemoaned the loss of whom he called a leader but also suggested that others will step up in Watt’s absence. Speaking after the game, Heyward said, “I’m not going to speculate what’s going and how bad the injury is. But you know having T.J. out there definitely benefits us. He’s a leader. He’s a defensive player here. However long it takes, other guys are going to step up.”
On the other hand, the New England Patriots come into this game on the back of a 20-7 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week. Mac Jones completed 21 of his 30 passes and passed for 213 yards and had one touchdown pass and one interception. Running back Ty Montgomery ran for 15 yards and recorded the only touchdown for the Patriots in what was an underwhelming start to the season.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick spoke after the game and stated that there was no reason to worry as this was only the first game and that there is a lot of room for improvement in the coming months. Belichick said, “We got into their territory. We got in there six, seven times and it was seven points. So we’ve got to do a better job of finishing. It’s a long season. I don’t think it will be decided after this week’s games.”
