Zion Williamson finally returned to competitive action in New Orleans Pelican’s season opener against Brooklyn Nets. He missed the entirety of the 2021-22 NBA season because of a foot injury. And has played only 85 games before his return on Wednesday night in three seasons after being picked up as the No.1 overall draft pick in 2019.

Williamson was instrumental in his very first game back as he helped the New Orleans Pelicans to beat the Brooklyn Nets. He scored 25 points and recorded 9 rebounds as the Pelicans overpowered the Nets 130-108.

Zion Williamson looks to have fully recovered from his injury. Just like his usual self, the 2019 No.1 draft pick was explosive with his movement in his first game back. It’s safe to say that Williamson is getting his groove back and it will be interesting to see how he does in the remainder of the season.

Can New Orleans Pelicans challenge for the championship with the return of Zion Williamson?

As mentioned earlier, Williamson was absent from the 2021-22 NBA season after suffering a leg injury. Despite him being absent from the season, the New Orleans Pelicans managed to reach the playoffs with some impressive collective performances on display. However, the Pelicans weren’t able to hang on and were sent back home in the first round itself by the Phoenix Suns.

With Zion Williamson back in the team and having recovered from his injury, the Pelicans would love to fancy their chances. However, it is worth noting that the sport is much more about the collective than the individual brilliance.

The New Orleans Pelicans will have to perform at the best of their abilities to get the better of some of the best sides in NBA such as Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, etc. That said, the Pelicans have certainly started off on the right foot with a win over the Brooklyn Nets. And it will be interesting to see how they compete against the biggest sides of the league in the remainder of the season.
