Sunday will be the Utah Jazz’s first preseason game against the Toronto Raptors, and despite three training camp practices, there are still more questions than there are answers as to what to anticipate. Rudy Gobert was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Donovan Mitchell was sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers, completely overhauling the Jazz’s squad. Bojan Bogdanovic and Royce O’Neale were both traded to the east over the summer, leaving just Mike Conley on the roster from the starting lineup the previous season.
Twenty players are currently under contract with the Jazz, including guard Johnny Juzang, a two-way player who was signed on draught night. Twelve veterans with three years or more of NBA experience are on the roster, although only Conley, Rudy Gay, and Jordan Clarkson are back from the squad from the previous year. Conley and Clarkson, as well as rookies Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Kelly Olynyk, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt, are guaranteed spots in the Jazz rotation. Ochai Agbaji, Walker Kessler, and Simone Fontecchio, three rookies who might be crucial to the Jazz’s future, should also contend for playing time.
