The 2022-23 NBA season has recently kicked off and as one would expect, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the rookies that have joined the most elite league of professional basketball.

The 2022 NBA drafts were very impressive during the NBA summer league and they will expect to carry this momentum into the regular season as well. However, there are a few rookies who did stand out. That said, let’s take a look at the top 5 young players to watch out for this NBA season.

5. Jaden Ivey

Ivey was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as their No.5 overall pick. Ivey is a top-tier athlete and can cause some real problems in his position. In the summer league, he scored 31 points in the 37 minutes he got before suffering an ankle injury in game two.

Ivey’s explosiveness is a great added bonus to his abilities and can hurt the defenses as well. That said, it will be interesting to see how the 20 year old does in his maiden NBA season.

4. Chet Holmgren

Oklahoma City Thunder’s is touted to be one of the best rookies heading into the NBA season. Moreover, there’s a lot more upside to him in long term. The summer league saw him pick up easy baskets and he even looked comfortable shooting three pointers.

However, his physicality can really be tested in the regular season. The 7ft NBA rookie will need to work on his physicality to match up the talent he possesses and emerge as one of the best rookies this year.

3. Keegan Murray

Murray is another exciting rookie heading into the NBA season. The Sacramento Kings’ 21 year old forward is confident with the ball and doesn’t mind taking his chances with a three-pointer. He boosted his stock in the summer league with impressive performances. Murray made 17 threes in the summer league and will be hopeful of translating his success to the NBA.

2. Mark Williams

Mark Williams was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in this year’s NBA drafts. Williams was one of the best shot blockers in college basketball last year. Standing in at 7ft 1inches his height and also reach is a real problem for anyone who’s trying to go past him.

Moreover, his shot blocking potential is enough to make him one of the best rookies this year. That said, it will be interesting to see how his rookie season goes.

1. Paolo Banchero

This year’s first draft pick Paolo Banchero is backed to the be the rookie of the year. Just two games in the NBA summer league was enough to explain why he stands out amongst the rest. His overall effectiveness with passing the ball and creativity on the court makes him an exciting talent to watch.

The Orlando Magic’s 1st overall pick will definitely look to prove why he was the first choice in this year’s NBA drafts.
