The Brooklyn Nets are slowly finding their groove after a worrying slump. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are putting up big numbers of late and that has firmly established them as the team to beat in the Eastern Conference even though they are the 8th seeded team.

The one area of concern for the Nets is the vaccination status of their star point guard, Kyrie Irving who will be unavailable for the home games due to the city of New York’s strict vaccine requirements. Mayor Eric Adams has come under a lot of pressure from a lot of people to lift the mandates so that unvaccinated players can play in the Barclay’s Centre. Kyrie for his part has not backed down. He has stood by his decision and it looks like nothing is going to change that.

Kevin Durant spoke on the matter after their win against the Orlando Magic. Durant said he had spoken to Kyrie Irving about the vaccination.

“Me and Kyrie had conversations about the vaccine and what it meant to him, meant to me. At the end of the day, I didn’t think it was my decision on what he wanted to do with the vaccine. I gave him how I felt about it and we talked about it, but that’s ultimately his decision.”

Kevin Durant also said that criticism of Kyrie Irving for not getting the vaccine is unwarranted.

Kevin Durant calls out NY mayor Eric Adams

Durant took it upon himself to call out New York City mayor Eric Adams after the win against the Knicks on Sunday, saying that the vaccine policy that kept Irving out of Brooklyn home games was “stupid”.

“But everybody out here is looking for attention, and that’s what I feel the mayor wants right now is some attention. He’ll figure it out soon. He better, but it just didn’t make any sense. It’s unvaxxed people in this building already. We’ve got a guy who can come into the building. I guess, are they fearing our safety?”

I don’t get it. We’re all confused. Pretty much everybody in the world is confused at this point. Earlier on in the season, people didn’t understand what’s going on, but now it just looks stupid. So hopefully, Eric (Adams), you’ve gotta figure this out”, concluded Durant.
