The Phoenix Suns will welcome the Indiana Pacers to Footprint Center for an NBA game on Saturday. The Suns won 117-112 in their last game over the Nets. Cam Johnson got an All-Star level ovation from the home crowd in the first quarter when he came to the scorer’s table, returning to the floor after losing 37 games to a knee injury.
Mikal Bridges scored 28 points, Johnson added 19 off the bench and the still very short-handed Suns held off the Brooklyn Nets 117-112 on Thursday night. “I just thought he brought a level of juice to the arena that we hadn’t felt in a while,” Suns coach Monty Williams said.
Deandre Ayton had 24 points and 14 rebounds to help the Suns snap a three-game losing streak. Brooklyn has lost four straight. Johnson’s return is welcome good news for a team that had lost 12 of 14 games coming into Thursday. He had a crucial steal late in the fourth quarter along with four important free throws.
The Pacers on the other hand lost 134-111 against the Nuggets in their last game. Bennedict Mathurin had 19 points and Chris Duarte added 18 for the Pacers, who dropped their sixth straight game. Indiana went 8 of 32 from 3-point range. “We’re making a lot of mistakes. We’re not taking care of the ball, including me,” Duarte said. “We just have to cut that down. I feel if we cut the turnovers down we’re going to be there with the other teams.”
Adelman was especially pleased for Murray, who’s been working his way back from a torn ACL that kept him out all last season. “He’s already had such a storied career here as a Nugget and everything he’s been through,” Adelman said. “So it’s very cool to see that.”
A stat line Malone will certainly appreciate — a season-high 38 assists. This, too — 16 steals. “It was really fun to see our guys continue to play the way we play regardless of who’s on the court,” Adelman said. “It was fun because a lot of guys contributed. Those are special nights.”
