On Sunday, Nikola Jokic drew closer to tying Wilt Chamberlain for the most career triple-doubles by becoming the first player in NBA history with multiple 25-point triple-doubles on 80 percent shooting. In a 124-104 win over the Brooklyn Nets, Jokic scored 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists while shooting 12-of-15 from the floor.

He leads the NBA with 14 triple-doubles this season and 71 in his career, only seven behind Chamberlain for sixth all-time. When Denver rallied from losing by seven to leading by 21, the reigning MVP scored 23 points in the second and third quarters. The Nuggets restricted Brooklyn to 29 points in the second half, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Jokic said, “We rebounded better in the second half, we made them take tough shots. The defense was much, much better.”

Jokic’s triple-double came in 29 minutes and 49 seconds, making it the ninth time he’s had a 25-point triple-double in under 30 minutes. Only Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid, LeBron James, and Domantas Sabonis have done it.

Will Barton scored 21 points, while Aaron Gordon added 17 points and nine rebounds in his return to the Denver Nuggets after a two-game hiatus. With left hamstring stiffness, Nets guard James Harden has missed his second consecutive game.

For Brooklyn, Kyrie Irving scored 27 points and 11 assists, while Cam Thomas had 20. The Nets haven’t had an eight-game losing streak since losing seven in a row from Dec. 26, 2019, to Jan. 7, 2020. The road trip ended with a 0-5 record.

Denver led 76-75 at halftime and went on to win 107-91 in the third quarter, outscoring the Nets 31-16. Jokic entered the fourth quarter with nine assists and appeared to be on his way to another triple-double until Brooklyn reduced the score to 109-99.

Jokic returned to the game and assisted on a layup by Barton, giving him his tenth assist.

With 10 days until the All-Star break, the Nuggets remained a game ahead of the Timberwolves in the Western Conference standings.

Denver coach Michael Malone said,”This is a challenging time for every team, every coach and every player. We have five games until the All-Star break. We’re tired of each other. I see this team more than I see my wife and kids.”

The 4 times NBA all-star is making records and the fans wish to see more of his action while in the arena.
