Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards will welcome the San Antonio Spurs to Capital One Arena for an NBA game on Friday. The Washington Wizards lost 104-118 in their last game over the Nuggets. Kristaps Porzingis scored 25 points for the Wizards, who were without three-time All-Star guard Bradley Beal due to left knee soreness.

Deni Avdija added 16 points for Washington, which lost its fourth straight. Washington entered the game in 12th place in the East and 2 1/2 games back of Chicago for the final play-in spot. Beal had played 31 minutes and scored 16 points in Tuesday’s 122-112 loss at Orlando. Forward Kyle Kuzma (right ankle) also missed a second straight start.

“It’s frustrating of course, but we can’t control the circumstances,” Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. said “It’s just more, how do we respond to the circumstances? That to me is more important. It’s an indication of who we are collectively and individually.” Neither team led by more than six before halftime. Denver opened up a 21-point lead after outscoring Washington 39-16 in the third quarter.

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs on the other hand lost 130-94 against the Bucks in their last game. Bobby Portis and Khris Middleton added 19 points each for the Bucks, who never trailed. Middleton also had 10 assists, while Portis had 10 rebounds. Devin Vassell scored 16 points to lead the Spurs. San Antonio was playing for a second straight night and was missing leading scorer Keldon Johnson for a second consecutive game due to a neck strain.

The Spurs also didn’t have usual starter Tre Jones, who was out with a sore left foot after playing Tuesday in a 119-84 loss at New Orleans. After trailing by 13 in the first quarter, San Antonio got within two points a couple of times in the second period. But after Keita Bates-Diop’s three-point play cut Milwaukee’s lead to 51-49 with 2:41 left in the second, the Bucks outscored the Spurs 15-2 to close the first half.

That spurt included consecutive dunks by Antetokounmpo, the first coming on a putback and the second on an alley-oop from Middleton. Milwaukee capped the run with 3-pointers from Pat Connaughton and Joe Ingles, who beat the buzzer with his shot from the corner in front of the Bucks’ bench. The Bucks then poured it on in the second half.
