Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards will welcome the Sacramento Kings to Capital One Arena for an NBA game on Saturday. The Washington Wizards lost 117-94 in their last game over the Cavaliers. Bradley Beal scored 22 points and Kristaps Porzingis had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Wizards. Washington (32-38) lost for the sixth time in eight games and fell into a tie with Indiana and Chicago for the final East play-in tournament spot.

Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma had seven points after missing a game with a sore right knee. Corey Kispert scored 12 points and Monte Morris had 10 points, but Washington committed 17 turnovers that cost it 21 points. “Live-ball turnovers are lethal,” Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. said. “We don’t have a ton of individual shot creation, so it’s about ball movement.”

Xavier Cooks — named MVP of Australia’s National Basketball League last month — signed a multi-year contract before the game. The 6-foot-8, 183-pound Australian went undrafted in 2018 after graduating from Winthrop. “Xavier is coming off a championship run (with the Sydney Kings) and had another excellent season,” Unseld said. “He did enough to get noticed.” Cooks is making his NBA debut.

Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings on the other hand lost 96-101 against the Nets in their last game. For the first time in 17 years, Sacramento has a winning team again. Domantas Sabonis had 24 points and 21 rebounds, and the Kings clinched their first winning season since 2005-06 by beating the Brooklyn Nets 101-96 on Thursday night.

De’Aaron Fox added 18 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Kings, who improved to 42-27, second in the Western Conference. They hadn’t finished above .500 since going 44-38 in 2005-06, the last of eight consecutive playoff appearances under Rick Adelman. The Kings have had a losing record in the other 29 seasons since moving to Sacramento but are in good shape to end the NBA’s longest current postseason drought in their first season under Mike Brown.

“I think being here for over four years now, and seeing the bottom — the very bottom — and to see the frustration of fans and the people in the organization, I think it’s nice to be on the other side it,” veteran Harrison Barnes said. “A lot of people, they don’t get a chance to stay in an organization long enough to see the good times and the bad, they just see the bad side. So I consider myself fortunate to be able to be part of this moment.”
