The Boston Celtics frontcourt rotation has been a topic of conversation since Mike Muscala was acquired at the February 9 trade deadline, as Joe Mazzulla continues to toy with his rotations. Yet, while the Celtics are struggling to figure out their best lineups, the Los Angeles Lakers are just trying to put enough size on the court to remain competitive as they continue to battle injury issues, including the recent injury of recently acquired big man Mo Bamba.

The Lakers are now considering former Celtics big man Tristian Thompson, who is presently a free agent and has experience competing for a championship alongside LeBron James, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“The Los Angeles Lakers are working out free agent centers Tristan Thompson and Tony Bradley this week, sources tell me and @jovanbuha. Thompson, an 11-year NBA veteran, was a key member of the 2016 championship Cavaliers team alongside LeBron James,” Charania tweeted.

Thompson appeared in 54 regular-season games for the Celtics, averaging 7.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 51.8% from the floor.

Tristan Thompson and LeBron James have played together

Tristan Thompson, who last played for the Bulls in the 2021-22 season, shared a championship with Lakers superstar LeBron James as a member of the Cavaliers in 2016.

Cleveland defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the NBA Finals that year, earning Thompson his first and only championship.

Thompson, a former first-round selection in 2011, has bounced around the league since his stint with the Cavaliers ended in 2020, playing for the Celtics, Kings, and Pacers in recent years.

Thompson averaged 5.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 16.3 minutes per game during his most recent tenure with the Bulls. With the playoffs approaching, the Lakers have been beset by ailments.

Los Angeles is presently ranked 10th in the Western Conference, with a 35-37 record, and holds the final slot in the play-in round. Thompson’s reported Lakers workout would top off an eventful few days for Thompson, who celebrated his 32nd birthday on March 13. Last week, his ex-girlfriend, Khloé Kardashian, 38, wished him a happy birthday on Instagram.
