Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns will welcome the Oklahoma City Thunder to Footprint Center for an NBA game on Friday. The Phoenix Suns lost 107-116 in their last game over the Clippers. The Suns missed nine of their first 10 3-point attempts, with only Josh Okogie warming up later in the game. Okogie led Phoenix with 24 points. He was 6 of 12 from behind the arc, but the rest of the Suns made five combined.

“It feels good without having to look over your shoulder when you mess up,” said Okogie, whose recent performances have put him in the running to join Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Deandre Ayton in Phoenix’s starting lineup when Durant returns from a knee injury.

“Coach (Monty Williams) told me, ‘I don’t care if you miss eight in a row. I won’t take you out for missing but I will take you out for not shooting.’” Booker had 19 points and nine assists for Phoenix. Ayton scored 18 points and newcomer Terrance Ross had 16 points. Booker was 1 of 6 from 3-point range, but tied Steve Nash’s franchise record with 1,051 3s.

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder on the other hand won 133-96 against the Rockets in their last game. The Oklahoma City Thunder created the kind of momentum they wanted to take into the All-Star break. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 29 points to help the Thunder roll past the Houston Rockets 133-96 on Wednesday night.

Gilgeous-Alexander was 8 of 16 on field goals and 13 of 15 on free throws. The first-time All-Star played just three quarters because Oklahoma City was up 116-78 heading into the fourth. Thunder guard Josh Giddey said coach Mark Daigneault helped the team stay focused. “Guys know the break’s coming up and it’s easy to look past it and kind of brush this game off and just get through it and head into the break,” Giddey said. “But coach really emphasized running the finish line. I think we did a really good job of that tonight.”

The Thunder enter the break with a 28-29 record after finishing last season 24-58. They are positioned to make a run at a playoff spot in the second half of the season. “We’re aware of the race for the play-in and the playoff spots. … Every game we can get, we need,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.
