The Orlando Magic will welcome the New Orleans Pelicans to Amway Center for an NBA game on Monday. The Magic lost 119-116 in their last game over the Nuggets. Markelle Fultz had 20 points for the Magic and made one of two free throws with 14 seconds left to play to tie it at 116, setting the stage for Jokic’s shot. Wagner added 19 points and Paolo Banchero had 18. Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said he liked the way his team fought back after falling behind at the half.
“To be on the back end of a five-game road trip and to give that intensity and that effort, coming down the stretch, where an MVP-type player makes the MVP-type play, that’s what it came down to,” said Mosley, whose club closed out a 2/3 road swing. Down by 15 at the half, the Magic pulled within six points on Wagner’s layup just before the close of the third quarter.
The Pelicans on the other hand lost 98-124 against the Heat in their last game. CJ McCollum scored 21 points for the Pelicans. They’ve lost seven of 10 while playing much of that stretch without star power forward Zion Williamson. Jonas Valanciunas had 18 points and 10 rebounds for New Orleans, which briefly trimmed a 19-point halftime deficit to 12 in the third quarter before Miami pulled away again.
“We didn’t show up with the level of urgency that it takes to play against good teams,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said. “Tonight we didn’t have it. Normally, we do, but tonight, we didn’t. This is the time of the season where it’s sort of the dog days,” Green added. “You’ve got to do all the little things to get yourselves prepared to play.”
