The New York Knicks will welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves to Wells Fargo Center for an NBA game on Monday. The New York Knicks won 116-110 in their last game over the Nuggets. Jalen Brunson felt good enough to blow by the Denver Nuggets early and hang around to make some big plays at the end.
The New York Knicks needed their point guard to get by the best in the West and Brunson was glad his sore left foot was healthy enough to deliver. He had 24 points in his return to the court, leading the Knicks to a 116-110 victory on Saturday. “He started the game, that was probably more adrenaline than anything else,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. “But a little rust, but then he got a good rhythm late so it was good.” “Everything feels good when you win,” Brunson said.
Brunson had 16 points in the first quarter to get the Knicks off to a quick start, then finished strong to help them come back after trailing by 13 in the second half. New York was protecting a two-point lead when he made two free throws with 43 seconds remaining, then pushed the ball up the court and threw a lob that Mitchell Robinson slammed down to make it 116-110 with 24 seconds to go.
The Minnesota Timberwolves on the other hand lost 122-107 against the Raptors in their last game. Jaden McDaniels scored 18 points as the slumping Wolves lost their third straight and fifth in six. “We’ve got to keep our heads up, we’ve got to keep fighting,” Finch said. “We’ve got to stay positive right now. That’s all we can do.”
Minnesota has lost 18 straight in Toronto. The Timberwolves last won north of the border on Jan. 21, 2004, when Sam Cassell, Kevin Garnett and Latrell Sprewell were the Wolves’ leading scorers in a 108-97 victory. “He’s had a couple of games in a row now where we’ve seen a lot of variety in what he’s doing,” Raptors coach Nick Nurse said. “That, to me, is his recipe for having a good night.” Toronto led 32-26 after one and 66-58 at halftime.
