New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans will welcome the Oklahoma City Thunder to Smoothie King Center for an NBA game on Saturday. The New Orleans Pelicans won 113-106 in their last game over the Mavericks. CJ McCollum stopped suddenly near the left sideline, dribbled between his legs, behind his back and then crossed over to create enough space to let fly a 3-pointer that New Orleans absolutely needed to avoid a late meltdown.

McCollum scored 13 of his 32 points in the final four minutes and the Pelicans held off the Dallas Mavericks 113-106 on Wednesday night. “No excuse, just produce. Figure out a way to get the job done. That’s what it’s going to take for us down the stretch,” McCollum said. “Make or miss, I’ve got to be aggressive for us and make something happen.”

McCollum’s compelling finish came after each team lost a top player. The Pelicans’ Brandon Ingram left late in the second quarter with a sprained right ankle after scoring 12 points. Dallas star guard Luka Doncic left in the third with a strained left thigh after scoring 15 points. “Pushing off is really hard for me,” Doncic said, noting he wasn’t sure what was causing the pain that he began to notice the day after a Feb. 23 victory over San Antonio. “It’s weird.”

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder on the other hand lost 132-101 against the Suns in their last game. Oklahoma City played without All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander because of “abdominal strain injury management.” The Thunder were overmatched without him and the Suns pulled away in the second half. Lindy Waters III led the Thunder with 23 points. He made six 3-pointers and was just two points shy of his career high. A 13-time All-Star, Durant was added in a blockbuster trade deadline deal with Brooklyn and the Footprint Center was buzzing in anticipation of his home debut.

But he rolled his left ankle while driving to the basket as he prepared to play. The 6-foot-10 forward immediately hopped up and was walking, but several minutes later, the Suns confirmed that he would miss the game. Coach Monty Williams said he wasn’t sure how much more time Durant would miss. “We’ll get more testing done tomorrow,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “Right now, it’s just an ankle sprain and we don’t have anything official to report.”
