The Minnesota Timberwolves will welcome the Brooklyn Nets to Target Center for an NBA game on Friday. The Minnesota Timberwolves lost 94-117 in their last game over the 76ers. Anthony Edwards scored 32 points for Minnesota, which returned home following a 3-1 West Coast trip. The Timberwolves shot a season-low 39.5% from the field and were 11 of 36 from 3-point distance.
“We’ve been hitting shots,” Edwards said. “We’ve been shooting great from the 3-ball. Nights like this are bound to happen. You got to get over it, look to the next game. Hopefully, we’re back to ourselves.” Philadelphia’s defense had allowed at least 126 points in three previous games, and gave up 143 in a win against Indiana a night earlier.
But the 76ers, who entered the game eighth in the league in defensive rating, harassed Edwards and Minnesota. “We just kept guys in front of us,” Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers said. “I think, what are they, third or fourth in the league in the paint and we kept them out of the paint, and I thought that was the difference in the game for us.”
The Brooklyn Nets on the other hand lost 118-113 against the Bucks in their last game. The Nets didn’t have Nic Claxton (right thumb sprain/left Achilles tendinopathy), Spencer Dinwiddie (rest), Cam Johnson (right knee soreness), Royce O’Neale (left knee soreness) and Ben Simmons (left back/knee soreness).
Mikal Bridges and Dorian Finney-Smith were the only Nets available who started in their 118-96 victory at Houston two nights earlier. Neither of them played more than 12 minutes as Nets coach Jacque Vaughn opted to limit their workloads. The Nets still made this one competitive, clawing back after the Bucks went 12 of 21 from 3-point range in the first 15 minutes to take a 46-24 lead.
“We picked up the energy,” said Cam Thomas, who scored 21 for Brooklyn. “We started getting on the glass and getting stops. That was the main key — getting stops, getting down and running and playing faster.” Patty Mills led Brooklyn with 23 points. The Nets also got big contributions from Dru Smith and David Duke Jr., who are both on two-way contracts that shuttle them between Brooklyn and the NBA G League.
