Kevin Durant sustained an MCL injury prior to the agreement, keeping him out of action since the middle of January.
The NBA was turned on its side by the Kevin Durant deal, but fans had to wait to watch the former MVP play for his new team. He sustained an MCL injury prior to the agreement, keeping him out of action since the middle of January. According to recent developments, KD’s Phoenix Suns debut appears to have a target date. NBA analyst Brian Windhorst stated that the organization is looking at this Sunday’s game as one in which Kevin Durant could play.
On Sunday, the Phoenix Suns will play the OKC Thunder, a squad that Durant is all too familiar with, before playing the Milwaukee Bucks. Although he had more time to recover during the All-Star break, it doesn’t seem likely that he will be able to play in that match. From Windhorst’s remarks, it doesn’t seem likely that he will return sooner. While Durant acknowledged that his knee feels well, he wants to make sure it is fully recovered. He wants to work in a five-on-five situation with Phoenix and gauge how his body responds to it.
“Within Durant’s camp and within the team there’s an expectation that Sunday’s game in Milwaukee could be more likely than Friday against the Thunder,” Windhorst said. Durant was averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists for the Brooklyn Nets prior to suffering an injury.
“Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns are targeting his Suns debut and return to action in next Wednesday’s road game against the Charlotte Hornets, league sources tell @TheAthletic@Stadium. Durant is on cusp of return from MCL sprain that he suffered on Jan. 8.” Tweeted Shams Charania
The Suns entered the title race right away after making the move to sign Durant. Phoenix has more than enough offensive talent, including Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton, to win the Western Conference. Time is not on their side, even though they have the pieces. When this team tries to make decisions on the fly, the playoffs will be reached in a sprint.
There will still be 21 games in the regular season for Kevin Durant if he makes his NBA debut on Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Although it is not ideal, the Suns must deal with it if they want to return to the NBA Finals. They do have two elite players in Paul and KD, so that’s something. They should be able to make things work easily as they have one of the greatest floor generals in history and one of the greatest plug-and-play guys ever.
