Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets will welcome the Detroit Pistons to Spectrum Center for an NBA game on Monday. The Detroit Pistons won 108-103 in their last game over the Heat. Gordon Hayward scored 21 points, rookie center Mark Williams had a huge game with 18 points and 20 rebounds — both career highs — and the surging Charlotte Hornets defeated the Miami Heat 108-103 on Saturday night for their season-best fourth straight win.

LaMelo Ball had 16 of his 19 points in the second half and finished with 13 assists for his sixth straight double-double. Kelly Oubre Jr. and Dennis Smith Jr. each had 15 points off the bench for the Hornets. Charlotte led by 22 in the first half before Miami clawed back to cut the lead to three at the break.

Tyler Herro had 33 points on six 3-pointers and Jimmy Butler added 28 points as Miami lost its fourth straight. Kevin Love had 13 points and 13 rebounds in his second game since joining the Heat. Herro called losing games on back-to-back nights coming out of the All-Star break “disappointing.” “This is a point in the year where we can either come together or we can go away and split,” Herro said.

Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons on the other hand lost 91-95 against the Raptors in their last game. When the All-Star break ends, the Detroit Pistons have a challenging task. On the one hand, the Pistons ought to desire to finish the season as competitively as possible. On the other hand, the NBA Draft is quickly approaching and Detroit needs to do everything in its power to secure Victor Wembanyama.

What then is the ideal formula for the Pistons to have a good conclusion to their season? It’s a run of competitive losses, in my perspective, that illustrate how their young players are progressing. Detroit has accomplished this in its first two games following the break. Despite a late 8-0 rally led by Cory Joseph, Marvin Bagley, and the reserves, the Pistons were defeated by the Toronto Raptors 95-91. The Raptors only shot 37% from the field, and Detroit allowed 95 points, the fewest points it has given up all year.
