The Brooklyn Nets will welcome the Houston Rockets to Barclays Center for an NBA game on Wednesday. The Brooklyn Nets lost 119-106 in their last game over the Magic. Cam Thomas added 18 points for the Nets, who lost for the sixth time in seven games. Bridges had 19 of Brooklyn’s 25 points in the first quarter, but Carter scored seven points on an 18-5 spurt midway through the second period that put Orlando ahead to stay.
Anthony and Mo Wagner led another third-quarter run that pushed the Magic’s lead to 88-71, and the Nets never threatened after that. “Tonight we did it by committee. That’s the message that we continue to sell,” Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said. “Eight guys in double figures, 30 assists. Our ability to do it together is the most important thing for this group.”
After the third quarter Bridges, with 34 points, was the only Nets scorer in double figures; the Magic had seven. . . . C Nic Claxton had nine rebounds and four blocks. . . . F Royce O’Neal (knee) and G Edmond Sumner (hip) did not play, and G Seth Curry missed a second straight game due to personal reasons.
The Houston Rockets on the other hand lost 137-115 against the Knicks in their last game. Kevin Porter Jr. led the Rockets with 26 points. Jalen Green had 19 and Kenyon Martin Jr. added 18 as Houston dropped its sixth straight game. Houston went on a 10-0 run to tie the game, but a Quickley 3-pointer ignited a 12-5 run by the Knicks and New York went on to lead 66-61 at halftime.
“I don’t know what he (Quickley) is, other than a good basketball player,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. “If you need scoring, he can score. If you need playmaking, he had nine assists. He’s effective starting. He’s effective coming off the bench. You can play him at the point, at the two, at the three. You can plug-and-play with him.” Quickley, who had 22 points at intermission, gave the Knicks a 97-83 lead on a 3-pointer with 1:42 left in the third quarter, and Randle’s buzzer-beating 3 put New York ahead 102-90.
