The Charlotte Hornets are back in action today against the Los Angeles Lakers after losing their Summer League debut on Friday. Both teams will be seeking to right the ship in this clash after the Lakers lost to the Phoenix Suns in their Summer League debut. The Hornets need to take better care of the basketball if they want to have a more successful game. Against the Pacers, they committed 18 turnovers to only 16 assists as a team, with second-year forward JT Thor leading the way with five personal giveaways.
In their first game, the Lakers struggled just as much to control the ball, with just 11 assists to 10 turnovers. The major offender, Scottie Pippen Jr., had a game-high five turnovers while having a team-high 19 points and three assists. The Lakers shot only 26.1 percent from outside the arc on the night, which was far worse than the Hornets’ performance. No Lakers player had more than eight rebounds, and none of the frontcourt players had more than four. They were also outrebounded by Phoenix by a score of 51-37.
The big names in tonight’s battle will be many. After clearing health and safety procedures, LiAngelo Ball will make a comeback, and Scottie Pippen Jr., who was already announced, will join Shareef O’Neal as Lakers Summer League players with Hall-of-Fame dads. Charlotte has to improve their ball handling, their three-point shooting, and their rebounding in order to secure their first summer league victory in almost three calendar years in a game that promises to be exciting for both teams.
