Kyrie Irving has been playing sensational basketball for the Brooklyn Nets this season. With Kevin Durant out injured, the Eastern Conference side have not looked at their very best, but their last two games have been dominated by Irving’s sheer brilliance. The 30-year-old backed his monster 48-point performance against the Utah Jazz by dropping 38 on the Golden State Warriors. Both resulted in victories for the Brooklyn Nets and this has helped them stay fourth in the East.

Prior to the 2022-23 season, there were a lot of doubts surrounding Kyrie Irving’s future with the Nets. However, he decided to stay in Brooklyn and that decision has seemed to work well for both sides. However, the franchise now have a decision to make about the potential eight-time All-Star’s future. The 2016 NBA champion is currently on a player option and will run out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 campaign. The franchise were reported to be hesitant in giving him a max contract, because of his availability issues. But Kyrie Irving seems to have shut them all up, by showing up brilliantly every game for the Nets.

His agent Shetellia Irving spoke to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and stated that Kyrie plans to make Brooklyn his home. Speaking to the journalist, she said: Around Kyrie and staying with the Nets? I have reached out to the Nets regarding this. We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets’ court to communicate now if their desire is the same.”

Should the Brooklyn Nets offer Kyrie Irving a max contract?

Kyrie Irving is one of the best point guards in the NBA. He is extremely skilled and can drop monster performances again any opponent in the league. Playing in Brooklyn, Kyrie has not been able to win a championship, but he has had some great outings. This season, he has been playing some great basketball alongside Kevin Durant, who prior to the injury was on a tear.

The Brooklyn Nets have two other big contracts alongside Kyrie Irving to handle. However, he is not a player they can easily replace. He adds high value and could certainly be the piece that helps them get to a championship. A four-year $200 million contract is a big amount, but for someone, his quality that’s money well spent as there are very few players in the league who can do the things he does on the court.
