According to several sources, Kyrie Irving will be traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks. According to reports, the transaction includes future selections, Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and the Nets. Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2027 second-round selection, a 2029 first-round pick (unprotected), and a 2029 second-round pick are purportedly given to Brooklyn. Markieff Morris and Kyrie Irving are supposedly sent to Dallas.

Just two days after Irving asked to be dealt from Brooklyn before the Feb. 9 trade deadline, the rumored deal was announced. The team claimed he was injured and was excused from attending the arena, thus he was not present for Brooklyn’s game on Saturday night. It also brings to a close a turbulent time in Brooklyn. Irving joined his childhood teams in 2019 with the intention of playing with Kevin Durant and winning a championship.

Mavericks’ Bid Wins

According to Chris Haynes, the Mavericks deal was chosen by the Nets over bids from the Lakers and the Suns, who also contained first-round picks in 2027 and 2029. (Chris Paul, Jae Crowder, plus picks). As Durant is expected to return from injury in the upcoming weeks, Haynes explained that the decision was made in an effort “to keep the club afloat.”

The Power Duo

This season, Irving has averaged 27.1 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.1 rebounds. Averaging 33.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game, Doncic. They immediately establish themselves as one of the NBA’s top duos, and they are likely to strengthen Dallas’ chances of winning a title in a division with several great contenders.

‘A Great Team’

As of right now, Irving’s season-ending free agency is planned. Irving may have been reunited with LeBron James, who he shared a championship with in Cleveland in 2016, had the Los Angeles Lakers been one of the few clubs thought to be interested in him. In October, Irving claimed he had observed qualities in the Mavericks that made them “a great team” after the Nets’ home overtime loss to Dallas. After Mavs star Doncic had a 41-point, 14-rebound, 11-assist masterwork, he spoke extensively about how much he admires Doncic’s talent.

“I think first, we’ve got to discuss just how long he’s been playing professional basketball. I think it’s been since like 14, 15 years old,” Irving said that night. “He’s used to seeing so many different defenses, so many different roles that he’s played, I’m sure, overseas. And now that he’s in the NBA, you just see him. He plays at an incredible pace. He makes great decisions.”

It was unclear when Irving would make his debut with Dallas. On Monday, the Mavericks travel to Utah. According to Wojnarowski, Irving is expected to arrive in Dallas on Monday for a physical before making his debut against the Clippers on Wednesday (10 ET, ESPN).
