The Miami Heat are tied 1-1 against the Knicks. All-Star forward Jimmy Butler missed the second game of the series with an ankle injury
The Miami Heat are tied 1-1 against the New York Knicks in the NBA conference semifinals. But they might be getting a crucial player back for Game 3. All-Star forward Jimmy Butler missed the second game of the series with an ankle injury, leaving the Heat without their best player on both ends of the court. Still, according to Knicks head trainer Tom Thibodeau, he expects Butler to play in Game 3.
Thibodeau and Jimmy Butler have a long history together, dating back to their time with the Chicago Bulls. Thibodeau was the head trainer in Chicago when Butler surfaced as an All-Star player, and the two have maintained a close relationship since also.
When asked about Butler’s status for Game 3, Thibodeau did not hesitate to say that he expects him to play.
“You already know the answer,” Thibodeau said with a smile. “Jimmy’s a tough guy. He is a warrior. He is going to give everything he has to help his team win.”
Butler’s absence was clearly visible in the second game of the series. The Heat’s defense and offense were on a decline in Butler’s absence.
Jimmy Butler’s return would give the Heat a much-needed boost. He is one of the best two-way players in the league, able of scoring from anywhere on the court while also playing lockdown defense. He equaled 21.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game during the regular season.
Butler’s leadership and competitiveness are also precious resources for the Heat. Butler is a leader on and off the court. Butler’s presence alone can give his teammates a jolt of energy and confidence.
Of course, it’s still unclear how effective Butler will be if he does play in Game 3. Ankle injuries can be tricky, and it’s possible that he will be limited in some way. But indeed if he is not at 100 percent, his bare presence on the court could be enough to swing the game in Miami’s favor.
The Heat are in a tough spot, but they have been there before. Getting Jimmy Butler back for Game 3 would be a huge help for them toward securing their win against the New York Knicks. And having a shot at the NBA championship title.
