The Denver Nuggets will welcome the Indiana Pacers to Ball Arena for an NBA game on Friday. The Nuggets won 122-118 in their last game over the Timberwolves. Jamal Murray hit a go-ahead floater with 55.9 seconds remaining, Nikola Jokic broke Denver’s record for assists on the way to his 14th triple-double of the season, and the Nuggets rallied for a 122-118 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
Jokic finished with 31 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds as he navigated foul trouble. The two-time reigning NBA MVP passed Alex English for the most assists in team history. Jokic has 3,686 career assists in 568 games — English recorded 3,679 over 837 games in a Denver uniform. Jokic’s teammates made sure to appreciate the achievement. “We clapped a little bit,” said Murray, who finished with 28 points. “That’s a lot of passes. That’s pretty impressive.”
The Pacers on the other hand lost 126-106 against the Thunder in their last game. Andrew Nembhard scored 18 points for the Pacers, who lost their fifth straight. Buddy Hield, who entered the night averaging 18 points per contest, scored just three points on 1-for-4 shooting in 19 minutes. Indiana shot 41.5% from the floor. The Pacers were without guard Tyrese Haliburton.
The NBA’s assist leader suffered sprains to his left knee and elbow last week and is expected to be out for at least another week. Without him, Oklahoma City raced out to a 17-1 lead. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said that was too much too early. “We allowed them to do too many things they wanted to do in the first five minutes, and you get down 19-1 or whatever it was, playing out of that kind of hole on the road is almost impossible,” he said.
