Another day, another matchup with a possible playoff team from the Eastern Conference. When the Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers meet each other on Sunday, the Cavaliers may be without All-Star guard Darius Garland after playing without All-Star guard Zach LaVine against the Chicago Bulls on Friday.
Gary Trent Jr. swiped at Garland during their opening-round loss to the Toronto Raptors, causing a cut in his eye. But even without Garland, success is far from certain. With his backcourt mate watching from the bench, Donovan Mitchell made a stunning debut for the Cavaliers on Wednesday, scoring 31 points and dishing out nine assists. He’ll likely serve as the centerpiece of their attacking strategy.
Watch out for the big man fight between Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis and Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. On paper, Mobley should defensively match up well against Kuzma, but thus far, that hasn’t been the case. Last season, Kuz averaged 23.3 points per game in four contests versus the Cavaliers, all of which he participated in while shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 56.7 percent from beyond the arc.
