The Charlotte Hornets will welcome the Denver Nuggets to Spectrum Center for an NBA game on Saturday. The Hornets lost 127-116 in their last game over the Celtics. Terry Rozier led Charlotte with 27 points. LaMelo Ball added 24 points and 10 assists. The Hornets have lost their last six games.
White hit his first eight shots of the night, including six from beyond the arc as Boston built as much as a 20-point, first-half lead. White ended the opening half with 26 points and seven 3-pointers. He finished 8 of 14 from 3 for the game. He also had 10 assists. “When you’re in the zone it feels good and you just try to hit every shot,” White said.
His early scoring punch helped fill the void created by the absence of All-Star Jaylen Brown, who was diagnosed with a maxillary fracture in his face after he took an inadvertent elbow from Tatum on Wednesday while going for a rebound during the Celtics’ win over Philadelphia. Brown’s unavailability did little to slow Boston, which shot 49% on the night and hit 25 3-pointers. Charlotte fell behind 6-0 and never led.
The Denver Nuggets on the other hand lost 115-104 against the Magic in their last game. Aaron Gordon had a season-high 37 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Nuggets. Nikola Jokic had 29 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, and combined with Gordon to score all 29 of Denver’s points in the third quarter.
“The message was simple at halftime — we’re not playing hard enough, we’re not playing physical enough,” said Denver coach Michael Malone. “They’re outworking us, they’re diving on the floor for loose balls and we’re bending over, trying to pick them up.”
Gordon (17 points) and Jokic (12) handled all the scoring for the Nuggets in the third quarter, and a 3-pointer by Gordon pulled them to within three late in the period. But Gordon and Jokic spent the first 3:34 of the final period on the bench, and Anthony and Bol led a rally that pushed Orlando’s lead back to 107-88 with 6:05 remaining.
