Ben Simmons made his debut for the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night against the New Orleans Pelicans in their NBA season opener. However, he had a debut to forget. It is worth noting that Simmons was traded to the Nets earlier this year in January. However, he never got to play for them because of injuries.

While he would’ve been hoping to get a great start in the season opener, things didn’t quite turn out too well. In the 23 minutes he played, Simmons records only four points, five assists and three turnovers. Not only that, he was being exposed and both ends of the court as well.

To make things even worse for himself, he fouled out early in the fourth quarter which brought an end to his rather disastrous debut. As far as the performance of his team goes, the Brooklyn Nets also started off their campaign in a distasteful manner and ended up suffering a 108-130 defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 2022-23 NBA season is pivotal for Ben Simmons

The recently kicked off NBA season is absolutely detrimental for Simmons. The Brooklyn Nets player is often criticized for his lack of effort on the court. While he continues to dominate the headlines, he needs to find his groove back to stay at the top level.

Ben Simmons’ exit from Philadelphia 76ers earlier this year was not only controversial, but it also painted a big question mark over Simmons’ desire to play. He was in fact downplayed by his 76ers coach Doc Rivers and his former teammate Joel Embiid.

That said, Ben Simmons will most certainly have to find the best version of himself to display this season. While he couldn’t have wished for a worse start, there’s a long road ahead and he will be hopeful of shutting up the doubters.
