With a 5-3 victory in Miami, primarily thanks to Francisco Lindor, the Mets returned to winning ways. Sandy Alcántara, the way-too-early front-runner for the Cy Young Award, was hit far to dead center by Lindor in the first inning. Lindor was outstanding right away. Although Mark Canha added his home run in the fifth inning, the Mets’ offensive outburst occurred in a rather bizarre sixth inning. Tomás Nido singled to get the rally off, and Brandon Nimmo followed suit with a single of his own that was a bunt against the shift that Luke Williams mishandled. The real odd thing started when Starling Marte stepped up to the bat as a result.

Marte threw a simple double-play ball to Willians Astudillo, who attempted to tag Nimmo and throw first for the double play and succeeded in doing so. Astudillo entered the game after Jazz Chisholm was forced to leave due to an injury. The Mets successfully overturned both outs after challenging not just one of them. In reality, Astudillo used his bare glove to tag Nimmo rather than the ball. A rally-ending double play became a bases-loaded, no-out scenario when Marte also beat out the ground ball and was safe. With a bases-clearing double, Lindor put the finishing touches on the Mets offense, rewarding Buck Showalter and the review crew.
