Nick Pivetta triumphs for the eighth time in his past ten starts, while Christian Arroyo, making his COVID-19 list comeback, homers and knocks in three runs.
In his first game back from the COVID-19 injured list, Christian Arroyo drove in three runs and blasted a two-run home run in the seventh inning to help the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-3. The Red Sox took a 4-2 lead thanks to Arroyo’s game-winning home run to left center off Bryan Shaw (3-1) and went on to win their fifth straight game and move a season-high nine games over.500. Boston is 30-12 since May 10 and 17-4 in June. In his first career start against Cleveland, Nick Pivetta (8-5) gave up just two runs over the course of seven innings while scattering nine hits. The right-hander is 8-1 with a 1.85 ERA over his past 10 starts, and he struck out four batters without issuing a walk.
With the bases loaded and Boston leading 6-2, closer Tanner Houck struck out Amed Rosario and José Ramirez before giving up an RBI single to rookie Steven Kwan. The Guardians, who had won 17 of their last 23 games and were leading the AL Central going into the game, saw Andrés Giménez hit a solo home run and score two runs. Myles Straw added an RBI single, Rosario and Franmil Reyes each had two hits. With the bases loaded in the second inning and Arroyo going 3 for 4, Cal Quantrill’s pitch struck him, scoring the first run for the Red Sox. Since being injured on June 15, the shortstop has missed eight games.

Final: Red Sox 6, Guardians 3. Both teams were even to start the game but all it took was a 3 run inning in the 7th for Boston to run away with this thing adding another in the 9th #ForTheLand #DirtyWater #MLB

In an electric game full of mammoth home runs, theBoston Red Sox blasted the Cleveland Guardians 6-3. Andres Gimenez hit a towering homer for the Guardians, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the red-hotRed Sox offense.

Congrats Redsox on taking down the mighty Guardians…wait? Who the eff are the Guardians?

WTF does it matter? We can’t beat the Red Sox. Rosario couldn’t keep his hitting streak to end the game and José couldn’t even hit a fair ball to keep the inning alive.

#Guardians had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the 9th down 6-3, but neither Rosario or JRam could make any noise. Feels like my favorite baseball team always loses to the damn Red Sox every year.

The real problem tonight for @CLEGuardians? They didn’t knock out Pivetta and get into the @RedSox pen. He did just enough to keep his team in the game.
