Arjun Deshwal, an Indian Kabaddi ace, was born on July 7, 1999. Playing as a raider, he makes his mark in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). His hometown is Baseda, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district. Deshwal kicked off his professional journey with U Mumba before moving to the Jaipur Pink Panthers, where he played a pivotal role in clinching the title for Season 9 of PKL in 2022, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier raiders. In 2023, Deshwal took to the international stage at the Asian Games, where the Indian team, amidst some controversy, clinched the gold medal by narrowly defeating Iran with a score of 33-29 in the finale.

From a young age, he displayed a talent for Kabaddi and commenced his Kabaddi journey when he was just 11 years old. Even though he enjoyed playing cricket as a young boy, the sight of village youths competing in Kabaddi and frequently securing awards piqued his interest. This pushed him to become part of the Kabaddi squad, especially since no one in his community had ever gained recognition for cricket. On the domestic front, he represents the Services team as well as the Green Army. Transitioning from cricket at 14, Deshwal found his true calling in Kabaddi, soon becoming known for his quick raiding skills.

He first showcased his talent in district-level school tournaments, and within a year, he was playing in the U-16 team for his school. By 2015, he had earned the title of state champion in the under-19 category. His progression continued, and in 2017, he represented Uttar Pradesh in the National Senior Kabaddi Match. By 2019, his participation in the Uttrakhand State-level National Kabaddi Match won him widespread admiration for his swift moves. PKL Auctions are key events in the Kabaddi world, and like his peers, Deshwal harbored aspirations of bringing the Kabaddi World Cup to his home country.

His skills on the mat have made him one of the sport’s hottest commodities, fetching an auction price of 96 Lakhs during the 2021 Season 8 auctions. In an interview, Deshwal disclosed that although U Mumba wanted to retain him post his stellar 2019 Senior National Kabaddi Championship performance, he opted for the PKL auction on his family’s advice. Despite initial nerves about joining the national auction pool, his gamble paid off as he saw his earnings soar from 19.46 Lakhs to 96 Lakhs in just three days.
