Pro Kabaddi League: UP Yoddha, Haryana Steelers share points in a scintillating draw

Surender Gill starred for UP Yoddha earning 14 valuable points that also marked his second ‘Super10’ this season.

UP Yoddha – the GMR group owned franchise – wrapped up their ninth game of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 with a thrilling 36-36 draw against Haryana Steelers. Surender Gill starred for UP Yoddha earning 14 valuable points that also marked his second ‘Super10’ this season. The others who contributed to the scorecard were Pardeep Narwal with 6 points, followed by Shrikant Jadhav who added another 5 valuable points for the Yoddha’s. Nitesh (3 tackle points), Ashu ( 2 Tackle points) and Shubham (1 tackle point) earned a total of 6 tackle points for UP Yoddha. UP Yoddha jump two positions to the sixth spot on the league table with 23 points to their kitty. 

The game began on an extremely slow note with both UP Yoddha and Haryana Steelers playing a very safe game. While UP Yoddha’s defence seemed a little off but the good news was that Pardeep Narwal seemed like coming back to form. The game had Haryana Steelers leading 2-4 with the scoreboard moving at a snail’s pace in the first seven minutes of the half, but Pardeep Narwal changed the momentum snatching 2 crucial raid points in the 8th minute and equalising the score to 4-4.

Thereafter Narwal collected a point on each of his raids to help UP Yoddha take a lean 2 point lead to 8-6 and eventually inflicting an all-out on Haryana Steelers in the 13th minute to take the scoreboard to 11-7 in the Yoddha’s favour. UP Yoddha hereon raced ahead to a 14-10 lead with the raiding unit of UP Yoddha coming to the fore earning 9 points, however, their defence lacked agility as the Yoddha’s faltered in the tackles, helping the Steelers reduce the deficit to 14-13 at the end of the first half.  

UP Yoddha vs Haryana Steelers: Action-packed second half

The second half began with UP Yoddha and Haryana Steelers playing a very safe game for the first nine minutes as the scoreboard read 19-19. However, a ‘Super Raid’ by Surender Gill in the 10th minute of the second half helped the Yoddha’s race ahead to a 22-19 lead. Just two minutes later UP Yoddha inflicted another ‘All Out’ on Haryana Steelers to increase their lead to 26-20. UP Yoddha hereafter galloped their way to a massive 30-21 lead, thanks to a solid attack with able support from the Yoddha’s defensive unit who somehow could not replicate their performance from the last game. 

However, Haryana Steelers fought back and inflicted an ‘All Out’ on UP Yoddha just two minutes before the final whistle to reduce the deficit to a solitary point. Thereafter, Haryana Steelers left no stones unturned to snatch a win, but two crucial two-point raids by Surender Gill ensured that the score remain levelled at 36-36 at the end of the stipulated time.
